3 ways social media can grant your business wishes

Social media can open up a range of opportunities for your business and even if you don’t have a Facebook page, Twitter or LinkedIn account, it only takes a few minutes to set these up.

Like email marketing, social media is a great way to:

  1. Acquire more brand followers.
  2. Promote your brand, products and services.
  3. Sell more products and/or services.

Setting up your company’s social media pages and engaging with the people you already know is a quick way to get started. Clients and contacts that you already email, snail-mail or meet in store are a great place to begin. These people already know who you are and (hopefully) already have a positive connection with your brand.

There are a few ways you can get your current contacts working as brand advocates. To encourage people to share, like and re-tweet for you it’s important to provide useful and engaging content that they want to pass on. Or if you want a quick boost you can run a promotion or competition that encourages your contacts to promote you. For example if you are a florist you can run a promotion where everyone who re-tweets your Valentine’s Day discount goes in the draw to win a dozen red roses.

Sometimes people tell me that they don’t know what to send out on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Fortunately, the answer is quite simple. You know your audience and you know what they want. You are probably giving them the content, information and promotions that they want already on your website, in your blog or via your brochures.

Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn all allow you to tell your followers about your company’s latest: news, promotions, sales, products, services and to provide real time offers. For example, if you own a restaurant with some un-reserved tables this evening you could send out a special offer (such as a group discount) to your social media followers on Facebook.
