HazWastefund - Update

Edition 3: September 2009

Welcome to 2009/10. Despite the shock to the economy in 2008, the new financial year is looking positive, according to ANZ Economic Outlook1. To ease the recovery process, HazWaste Fund (HWF) may be able to assist. If your company is planning to minimise operating costs through new and innovative methods of waste reduction, call 9695 2722 to talk about potential opportunities to partner with EPA Victoria (EPA).

Here’s what some of our HWF partners have been doing...

Avoiding waste and increasing productivity

Avoiding Waste By examining existing manufacturing processes, The Rohm and Haas Company2, Geelong identified key causes for waste generation. With solid data behind them, the leading supplier of paint binding agents can make real links between product loss and waste generation. They can now focus on the main problem areas to reduce waste disposed to landfill by up to 20% a year.

Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) employs Environment Officer

Civil Contractors FederationIn an exciting new move for CCF, an Environment Officer, funded through HWF, has been recruited to provide educational and advisory services to CCF members. As the representative body for civil engineering contractors in Australia, CCF hopes to raise the profile of the environment by assisting contractors to understand best practice management in industry-relevant environmental matters.

Keeping consultants in the HWF loop

EPA recently hosted a forum specifically for consultants. It was a great opportunity to talk all things HWF. Covering topics from application process to problem waste streams, the consultants found this event extremely valuable. With this new-found knowledge, they are now better equipped to help you identify new waste reduction opportunities. Talk to your consultant now !

New release: Industrial Waste Resource Regulations

This financial year kicks off the new Environment Protection (Industrial Waste Resource) Regulations 2009. Along with the Industrial Waste Resource Guidelines, the regulations aim to drive resource efficiency and encourage reuse and recycling of industrial waste resources. General feedback from industry is positive. Click here to learn more.
