The ride is a mass participation 100km ride from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, with a 60km option commencing at Albert Park, Eagleby. It aims to promote cycling participation and awareness, and raises funds for a number of charities including the Heart Foundation and Diabetes Australia (Qld).

Mayor Pam Parker

A friendly message from the Logan City Mayor Pam Parker

It is time for the future Israel Folau, Jodie Henry or Steven Bradbury to stand up and be recognised.

The 2009 BDS Logan City Sports Awards were launched this month and promise to again unearth a host of sporting talent - on and off the field.

This year's awards will again canvas a wide cross section of age groups, sports, and abilities. And it isn't only sportsmen and women who are recognised on the night. The awards also pay tribute to the tireless work done by coaches, administrators and volunteers who give so much of their time to ensure we have clubs for our juniors to join, fields for them to play and train on, and coaches to help their talented athletes achieve their potential.

The major award in the 12-category field is the BDS Logan City Sportsperson of the Year (Supreme Award for Sports Excellence).

Nominations are now being accepted and I encourage anyone involved in any facet of sport to visit Council's web site and nominate a sportsman, sportswoman, junior sportsman or sportswoman, administrator, coach, or perhaps even sporting event of the year.

Show your support for our talented sportspeople - it could just be the encouragement they need to reach their goals.

Pam Parker
Your Mayor of Logan City
