2009 HBF CITY TO SURF - JOIN TEAM UWA!
The HBF City to Surf fun run is on again and we at UWA Sports would like to invite you plus your family and friends to be part of the UWA team as we pound the pavement as the most prominent and successful university team at the event!
The event is being held on Sunday 30 August and UWA team members have the opportunity to participate in either one of five categories:

TERTIARY SPORTS W.A. (TSWA)
The TSWA semester 2 calendar is approaching us for 2009.
The first events will be Mixed Basketball and Mixed Dodgeball. These events are to be hosted by ECU Sports in Joondalup and promises to be a great day of high quality sport played in great spirit. INTERFACULTY SPORT
Second semester of Interfaculty sport is almost here and some very exciting events are soon to be hosted.
The first event for Semester 2 is the UWA Basketball classic. This entails the winner of the Interfaculty Basketball Championship vs. the winner of the Intercollege Basketball Championship. This year the Women’s competition will be contested against Economics and St. Thomas Moore with the Men’s game being between Economics and Trinity. The action will tip – off at 1:15pm on 5th August, so please feel free to get down to the Recreation Centre and support your team.

MIXED ULTIMATE
UWA Flying Disc Club will be hosting the TSWA Mixed Ultimate Championship on Sunday 19th July.
JULY DAYZE is a one day mixed tournament designed to kick start the winter seasons. It is aimed at all teams, from those who are starting campaigns for whatever tournament, to those who want to get some extra practice for league. What are the details you ask?

WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
Congratulations to the following students that competed in the recent World University Games held in Belgrade, Serbia.
- Amanda Bisk – Athletics (Pole Vault) – 9th
- Nick O’Halloran – Water Polo – Gold Medal
- Zoe Timmons – Athletics (High Jump) – 6th
All of these students have not only done UWA proud but have done the very best for Australia. Congratulations to all of these competitors. We look forward to seeing these guys and girls in action for UWA in the Australian University Games in the Gold Coast in September 2009. |

TOURNAMENTS AT THE UWA TENNIS CENTRE
Over the next few months the UWA Tennis Centre will be hosting many tennis tournaments.
From a Round Robin Style tournament on 15-16 August to the State Open Claycourt Championships in the first two weekends in September, there is something for everyone – whether you’re a spectator or a player. It all culminates with the biggest junior tournament on the WA calendar, the UWA Spring Nationals! This brings the best from the 12’s and 14’s age groups from around Australia to battle it out for the right to claim National Champion! This event runs from 27 September to 8 October. Hope to see you there! |

UWA GRADUATE LAUNCHES NEW BOOK
Sudoku lovers, rugby players and lovers of literature alike are invited to the international launch of “Full Contact Sudoku”, the story behind the story of the Members Equity Numbats Australian Sudoku team.

POOL COMPETITION
UWA Sports will be hosting a Pool (Eightball) competition on Friday 31st July.

UWA SPORTS ADOPTS NATIONAL ALCOHOL CODE OF CONDUCT
Recently, Federal Minister for Sport Kate Ellis wrote to peak sporting bodies outlining the new National Alcohol Code of Conduct and sought the support of sporting organizations to endorse and adopt the Code for their sport throughout Australia.
UWA Sports has adopted the Code. In addition UWA Sports has sought each of its affiliated Clubs to consider, endorse and implement the Code.
