Campus Challenge aims to provide year 10, 11 and 12 high school students with the opportunity to experience different aspects of university life through participation in academic, sporting, recreational and social activities on campus at The University of Western Australia. The main objective of the camp is to enable students to make vital decisions about their future tertiary education by exposing them to all aspects of university life.

UWA SPORTS PARK NEWS

There's lots happening at UWA Sports Park over the next months!

• Winter sports are commencing their season now and the Football Club, Soccer Club, Hockey Club, Rugby Club and Softball Club are all set for great seasons.
• The Australian Ultimate Championships will be held at Sports Park between Thursday 23 and Sunday 26 April so everyone is welcome to come and have a look. There will be a showcase game on the Thursday evening at 6pm.
• The UWA Soccer Club is celebrating its 60th birthday on the weekend 25/26 April and there are a number of events planned for the weekend. For further information contact their webpage www.uwasoccer.com

Inter-Faculty
Economics leads the way over Sports Science. Check out the ladder.

Inter-College
Trinity College has jumped to the lead in both the Nicholson and the WISCA Cup. Check out the ladder.

Inter-University
UWA has a slender lead in the Tertiary Sports Western Australia (TSWA) competition, being currently in first place on 46 points, just 2 points ahead of Edith Cowan University (44 points). Check out the TSWA website.

2009 Australian University Games (AUG)
UWA is on track to beat last year’s record contingent of 286 students when the Games go to the Gold Coast in late September. Early predictions show that UWA will send a team over 300 to the Games which will include a Men’s Hockey team aiming for its 6th Championship in a row. To register go to Inter-University Contact page on our website.

2009 Indian Rim Asian University Games (IRAUG)
The 3rd installment of the Indian Rim Asian University Games will come to Perth in December.  With a large contingent of overseas students expected UWA is looking forward to hosting a memorable experience for local and International competitors. Check out the IRAUG website.

IVOR JONES RUGBY TROPHY FOUND!

UWA Club Officer Nathan Johnston has recently found a rugby trophy that dates back to 1940.  Titled “The Ivor Jones Trophy for Inter-Faculty Rugby” we have taken the opportunity to reinvigorate the spirit of the trophy. The trophy shows the following winners:

• 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943: Engineering
• 1983: Economics
• 1984: Education
• 1985: Education

2009 saw the development of a four team competition to contest the Ivor Jones to provide opportunities for a range of students to participate with individual faculties and colleges as well as a combined colleges and combined faculties team.

The teams that took take part were:

• Faculty Barbarians
• Law/Arts Faculty
• Trinity College
• College Barbarians

The best of UWA Rugby talent was on show with players putting their bodies on the line. On show were several players who are part of the Western Force Academy program, Club 1st Grade players, as well as several current state U/20 players. 

Congratulations to the Faculty Barbarians (see photo) who defeated Trinity in the final to take the title.

UWA SPORTS CLOSED FOR ANZAC DAY

Please Note: UWA Sports' facilities will be closed for Anzac Day Saturday 25 and Monday 27 April. No Recreate courses will run on these days.
