Internship and Scholarship Opportunities

Brisbane City Council (BCC) Economic Development Internship
BCC is offering current final year (UG or PG) economics students the opportunity to gain work experience in their Economic Development Branch. The internship is unpaid for one day a week over 8 weeks in the 2nd semester. Applications close midday Thursday, 31 July. Visit UQCareerHub for further details. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) 2008 Undergraduate Scholarship
Australian and NZ residents in their second last or final year (if considering honours) are invited to apply for the BCG 2008 Undergraduate Scholarship. Worth $10,000, the scholarship is designed to assist students plan their final year of study. Applications close 13 August 2008. For more information see UQCareerHub

What is management consulting? Hear it straight from the employer
The LiTMUS Group - a highly focused Australian based management consulting firm - will be on campus tomorrow, Wednesday 30 July to shed some light on life as a management consultant. Consulting and advisory opportunities
Connell Wagner will be holding an information session on Tuesday, 5 August to speak about the opportunities available within the Advisory Unit of their Brisbane office. Students interested in a career in multi-disciplinary consultancy are invited to attend, particularly students underaking a dual engineering degree combined with a business discipline. Networking opportunity- Economics Society of Australia (ESA) formal dinner
All BEL students are invited to attend the ESA UQ (student association) formal dinner on Tuesday, 12 August being held at the Holiday Inn from 7.00pm. The guest speaker will be John Cherry, former Australian senator; CEO of Queensland Farmers' Federation and UQ BEcon/LLB graduate. This will be a great opportunity to network with industry representatives and other like-minded students. Tickets are limited. ESA will be selling tickets during the weeks leading up to the event so keep an eye out for posters or contact the secretary of ESA for more information.
Meet the Industry Leaders in Tourism
The School of Tourism will be holding their annual Meet the Industry Leaders Event (MILE) on Tuesday, 16 September at Customs House from 6.00-8.00pm. The event will give you the opportunity to network with key representatives from the events, hospitality, leisure, recreation, sport, tourism and travel industries. In the UQ Law Mentoring Program, you will be matched with a legal practitioner who is willing to help you by giving you practical insights into the law and helping you with choosing a career path. It's not too early to start making connections with the profession, and having a lawyer-mentor will be useful even if you do not intend to become a lawyer. At an industry networking function a few months ago I overheard one partner from an accounting firm jokingly quip “the only way we can stand out from the crowd with graduates is to offer pole dancing during lunch hours!” Although said in jest, this comment shows what lengths firms will go to grab your attention. Say it in English! Sessions to help improve your language skills
In response to feedback from employers about communication and language skills being on the top of their list of priorities they look for in potential employees, BEL Employment Services has initiated a weekly 30-minute window of opportunity to help you improve your spoken language skills and build your confidence in using the English Language. Internship opportunities in Korea
The Australia Korea Internship Program (AKIP) runs for seven weeks and offers students an opportunity to develop their professional and cross-cultural skills while working for a local or multinational Korean company such as Hyundai and Samsung.
