In these uncertain economic times, I feel I have a duty to share with you all a very important Melbourne Cup tip.  This tip will spread across the internet in moments I'm sure, but just remember you heard it here first, and it's true.  If you want to win the Melbourne Cup Trifecta, get a pregnant woman to pick the numbers.  I discovered this by accident when I was pregnant at Straddie.  I won $4000 that day (on a $6 bet) and kept it all as I was so stone cold sober I immediately banked it.  Last year I told a regular customer about this, as it turned out his wife was pregnant, and yes, you guessed it, they won.  So that makes this a scientific fact.  Just remember, there is no logic to it, so she can pick them just because she likes their names and colours.  I can't tell you enough about the glee I get every single year telling EVERYBODY I picked the Trifecta at a Melbourne Cup.  Priceless.

This month, the local business I'd like to highlight is Map Magazine.  Now this magazine has been around for over 10 years, you can pick it up free every month, we are always lucky enough to get a few copies in the shop ourselves.  It's just jam packed full of local trendy Brisbane news, places to eat, designers, lots of stories on local visionaries.  Check it out on-line at www.mapmagazine.com.au .  And ok, it feels like a shameless plug, but they are also running their annual :

the map village EAT/DRINK 'best place' awards 2008/2009

IT'S TIME TO VOTE!

Voting for the map village EAT/DRINK 'best place' awards 2008/2009 is now open!
This is your opportunity to tell us how it is out there in the land of eating and drinking, and it doesn't just mean the food or drink - it means the whole package. We want the creativity, the experience, the ambience, and the flavour all to be taken into account when you tell us who you think deserves to be considered Brisbane's best.

Click here to vote for your favourites! The first 100 people to vote will receive a free double pass to map magazine's exclusive premiere screening of Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona at the brand new Palace Barracks Cinemas on December 3. Plus, the person to vote for the most winners will receive a wickedly indulgent prize pack from Little Creatures Brewing valued at $240 (and for those who come close, there are also five runner-up packs).

Cheers
the map team

THE NEXT ISSUE OF MAP MAGAZINE IS OUT NOVEMBER 7TH

Recipe of the Month -
Southern Indian Seafood Curry

It's another one of Chef Tim's, he has cooked it for the staff in the shop and it's easy and delicious!!

Curry Mix
1/2 brown onion
1 tbs vegetable oil
20 fresh curry leaves
1 tbs Garam Masala
1 tsp medium hot chilli powder

500g of mixed seafood - a marinara mix of prawns, squid and fish is always great, or even just on fish alone.

Blend all the curry mix together and marinade the seafood in it for at least one hour.  It then can be grilled, stir fried or BBQ.  Serve with basmati rice and fresh lemon wedges.  Serves 4
