ASQA website goes live
The national regulator's website went live yesterday. Worth a visit, if only to check out the draft of the new fee schedule for RTOs! Website link: click here

Public presentation on role of ASQA
Kaye Schofield gave a presentation about the new national regulator last Friday in Melbourne, at a VISTA breakfast. She addressed the following points and it is worth browsing through the slides from the presentation, which VISTA has kindly put on their website:
  • Governance relationships
  • Organisational structure of ASQA
  • Transitional arrangements for eligible Victorian RTOs

TVET Australia to be disbanded
The TVET website carries a letter from John Dawkins, addressed to nobody in particular, outlining the ministerial council's decision to wind up TVET Australia and to transition to alternative arrangements.

The National Standards Council, which is the new body that will provide advice
on the standards ASQA enforces and operates under (ie the AQTF Framework), shows on the PowerPoint slides mentioned above as reporting directly to the ministerial council.

VETAB clear about transition to ASQA
The website of NSW's registering body, VETAB, clearly states that it will cease operations on 30th June 2011 and the registration of NSW Registered Training Organisations will be automatically transferred to ASQA.

Ombudsman for overseas students
The new Overseas Students Ombudsman is now operational. The Ombudsman investigates complaints about the actions and decisions of private registered education providers in connection with overseas students. The website says 'This service resolves complaints and helps private education providers to improve their policies and practices to enhance the quality of international education in Australia'. The Overseas Students Ombudsman's service will be free of charge to both providers and students.

Any RTO delivering to overseas students is strongly advised to visit the website and read the suggested wording that can now be included in internal complaint and appeal letters.
