Register horse properties

Register a horse property online

Register your horse property or update your registration details with the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F).

Horse property registration

To assist the DPI&F with equine influenza (EI) disease containment, on 28 September 2007, it became a requirement for all landholders that have horses to register their lot on plan details (from the rates notice) for the property and provide their contact details. Registration results in a property identification code (PIC) being issued for the property. If your property already has a PIC all you have to do is confirm the number of horses kept on the premises and your contact details.

Voluntary horse owner list (if horses are on agistment)

As part of the Stock Identification Regulation 2005 registration of properties that keep livestock including horses is required. This allows DPI&F to contact or email horse owners who have horses on agistment.

DPI&F asks horse owners with horses on agistment or on leased premises to voluntarily register their horse ownership, and provide lot on plan details of the premises where the horses are located on agistment, so they can be cross-referenced with the landholder's registration details.

This will allow horse owners to be contacted by the DPI&F about important issues relating to vaccination programs, movement permits and changes in legislation.
